New blood for industry, not on the highways
TWELVE lives were lost in a road accident involving an express bus last Sunday. What else is new?More will be lost in similar circumstances because the authorities are not addressing the root of the problem - the sorry state of the express bus industry and companies.I would like to say that bigger players run their operations well with commendable safety records. The industry is full of smaller players, including illegal ones, who put the lives of innocent people to risk.

Many espects involved with serious accidents . Bus road wortiness-the design of bus carriage done locally was far away from satisfactory . On impact of road collision , most bus carriages will disintegrate into pieces as compared with foreign design which emphasises on safety and quality .It has been undergoing many tests before it can be put on the road , unlike here or in many asean countries where safety is usually compromised . Most locally produced vehicles lack the safety features and even our export model will not be permitted in foreign markets unless better safety features are installed. Another important expects like original spare-parts not easily to come by ,even if it is yes , it will be very expensive and deterred people to use effectively; poor quality and imitation brakes system ( hydraulic, disk or drum ) were installed , bad human behaviours , poor company management ,ill-equipped and under utilised law -enforcement , lackadaisical highway management etc are seriously lacking . This is only tips in the ice- berg where more fatal accidents will come by day after day unless and until something concrete is done with decisiveness, more innocent lives will be lost . It is a real pathetic state in the transport industry right now.
